It’s my understanding the bracelet idea asking “What Would Jesus Do?” was primarily situational. The idea was to remind yourself to ask that question in any given situation. It was a great idea and hopefully effective at keeping believers focused on Jesus rather than all the lies his world has to offer!
But, that creates a more macro question – not just what Jesus would do in any given situation – but what would/did he do in the big picture?
He answered that in his final prayer while on earth. In John 17:4 He said “I glorified you on the earth having accomplished the work which You have given me to do.”
Clearly the glorification of God the Father was paramount to Jesus. He was also crystal clear in what He did to glorify His Father. It wasn’t raised hands in song and worship. It wasn’t study of His Word or prayer. Those things are good to do but He states that He glorified God by doing the work He gave Him to do.
As a believer, we want to glorify God. In John 17:4 Jesus clearly tells us what He did do to do that.
Yet, even before He told us that, a couple of chapters earlier, in John 15:8, He told us “my Father is glorified by this that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples”.
I believe that statement is called a “mic drop”. A statement so clear that nothing else needs to be said.
Are you content with believing you hold a ticket in your hand for the “next ride”? Does your “Christian walk” consist of church, a small group, a bible study and prayer? Do you believe you are a disciple of Jesus Christ?
If the later, Jesus said “Prove It”!
How focused is your life as a Christian on fruit bearing? Are you ready to prove it to Jesus when you face Him at the BEMA seat described in 2 Corinthians 5:10?
Unfortunately our numbers focused Christian culture is more about “making believers” than “making disciples” (which Jesus commanded us to do in the Great Commission as described in Matthew 28:18-20.) The result of that mentality robs today’s Christians of a deeper walk with God – and glorifying Him the way He told us to. If you question that statement, ask your believing friends how many of them are focused on fruit bearing on a regular basis? Jesus said we will give account for our efforts.
Do you know how to bear fruit? The parables of the Talents and the Soils are a great place to start. Are you ready to give an account of your life before Jesus? If not, today is a great day to begin working on that!
