Paul lived and died to see the Gospel shared across the globe. In his epistle to the church gathered in Colosse, he shared with them his life goal:
“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” – Col. 1:28
Paul worked night and day, many times putting his life on the line, and eventually giving his life as a martyr for one reason: to see everyone grow to maturity in Christ. How did he accomplish this?
1. Him we proclaim
We have great record of Paul’s missionary journeys across Asia and Europe. Everywhere Paul went, whether as a free man or in chains, Paul proclaimed Jesus Christ.
2. Warning everyone
Anyone who knew Paul knew his warnings. We are born rebels, hating God and seeking our own selfish interests. Our flesh knows no expression but sinfulness, and the due penalty for that is eternal death. Paul lived to warn everyone that God will judge those who continue in sin.
3. Teaching everyone
Fortunately, Paul also dedicated his life to teaching of the hope we have in Christ. Because God paid our debt, we can be set free from sin, from eternal punishment, and from the traps and horrors of this world. Paul’s writings teach us a great deal about how we are to live, how we are to relate to God as his redeemed children, and how we are to relate to one another.
We would do well to adopt Paul’s mission statement as our own. A life dedicated to proclaiming Jesus, warning, teaching, and building mature disciples is a life heavily invested in the Kingdom of God. This is a life worthy of the Gospel!
