Christmas seems to be the perfect time to share a profound message we learned from a 6 year old this past year.
It’s hard to believe that I have been meeting with guys to study the Bible for around 25 years. It has been such a gift of God to serve in His Kingdom. It has never felt like a job or obligation. Now that I do it full time, I am as excited to return home from vacation to get back to meetings as I am to leave in the first place.
There have been a number of times when people have asked “just exactly what do you do?” Unfortunately, it isn’t all that common, so I suppose people are curious. The easiest label is “Discipleship”, but that isn’t very descriptive. “Spiritual Mentoring” is a term that has been used frequently. I would say it is a combination of Bible Study and Spiritual Mentoring. The goal is to filter life through scripture so we live and make decisions based on God’s perspective rather than the world’s – which will hopefully lead to fruit bearing and spiritual maturity.
I was fortunate to attend a men’s conference* last December that was life changing. It revealed the Father’s love to me in ways I never thought possible. For a number of months afterward, God continued to reveal His love in ways I hadn’t seen before.
One of the guys I meet with was putting his 6 year old daughter to bed earlier this year. She refers to me as “Papa Kim”. He shared the story:
“We began talking about appreciation for knowledge, and not taking it for granted. It evolved into medical knowledge and recognizing that she has physician parents who help take care of her. She asked what Papa Kim does for work, and I told her that he spends time with guys like me studying the Bible and learning about God. Her mouth dropped, and she asked me if that is what he does all the time. I said yes, and then she pulled down her covers, stood up in bed, threw out her arms, and said “Papa Kim’s job is to spread God’s love? That is the best job in the world!!”
Most of us grew up seeing the Bible as more of a Handbook than a Love Letter…
Sometimes it takes the eyes of a 6yr old to help us see more clearly.
Yes. There is no question. I do have “the best job in the world!”
The best part is that every one of us has the same job “Papa Kim” has. As a believer in Jesus, our Purpose for living is to represent His Love to a dying world – in whatever way the Father has equipped us through His Spirit.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness onto His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10
As we Celebrate God’s greatest act of Love, may we discover and employ the gifts God has given each one of us… and “Spread God’s Love”!
“For God so loved the world…”
Merry Christmas!
Kim
* The Return – found at theroadmap.org is truly “life changing!” We also highly recommend Road To Unity for couples. It gave Rhonda and my 46 year marriage a spiritual “steroid injection” neither one of us thought it needed!
Kim, I’ve watched you and your life for most of those 25 years. I’d say that 6 year old nailed it! Bless you for being such a blessing in so many men’s lives. (And in at least one six year old girl’s life!)
To our dear brother and our sister Rhonda:
What an eternal blessing we share in the Body of Christ. I love your spirits and for bringing the Lord in such an enjoyable and genuine way to all those you touch. Thank you for the testimony of God’s love.
Philippians 3:13 Brothers, I do not account of myself to have laid hold; but one thing I do; Forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, (14) I pursue toward the goal for which the prize to which God in Christ Jesus has called me upward.☝️💕❣️🌈🌟🥰
