I grew up in a home that attended church every Sunday and was led with a strong sense of morality. It wasn’t Mayberry, but pretty close to it. Shortly after turning 30 I had been married 10 years, had 3 kids and was about to take over the Presidency of my Dad’s business (with about 75 employees). According to the “American Dream” I was living it.
Through a personal goal setting effort I decided I wanted to get to know God better. There were many other events in my life that were drawing me to Him. Fortunately for me, none of them tragic. Interestingly, quite the opposite – but none of them “fulfilled”.
A friend introduced me to Dave DeWitt who’s ministry is called Relational Concepts. Dave didn’t ask me about my religious practices or even any sinful activities I was engaged in. We just started studying the Bible. I didn’t know it then, but he had amazing materials to help as guides. They can be found at his site https://relationalconcepts.org. They are non denominational and always guide us to scripture rather than away from it.
About 25 years ago I began discipling others at 7am and noons because everyone had full time jobs. As my son Mike’s leadership of our current business has allowed me to back out of full time employment, I have evolved to full time discipleship ministry. I am continually amazed with how God has blessed me with men to lead in their spiritual growth. I thank God for each one of them as they are truly a blessing to me and have made a huge impact on my own walk with the Lord. I pray that you receive the same blessing.
The Spiritual Gym’s Mission is to focus on three areas:
Perspective. “Perspective is Everything”. Every decision you make. Everything you do, is based on your perspective. Our mission is to provide a Bibical Perspective to everything we do. This is not natural. The natural man does not think like God. It takes a lot of work.
Discipline. Regardless of how gifted anyone is, an undisciplined life is a wasted life. Unfortunately, discipline is not natural either. Baby birds typically have to be pushed out of the nest – and so do humans. We are naturally lazy. The word Disciple comes from being a Disciplined Follower of Jesus Christ.
Purpose. Why do you exist? What makes you any different from my Labrador Retriever? He wants shelter, comfort, to be fed, and played with. He wants to have a good time. What makes humans different from animals? The Bible is clear and it’s where we find our real purpose. Some time back people wore WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) bracelets. In John 17:4 He tells us: “I glorified You by doing the work You gave Me to do”. He came to glorify God the Father. In John 15:8 He tells us our Purpose: “My Father in heaven is glorified by this; that you bear much fruit and prove to be my disciples.”
Go and bear much fruit!
